Use paint that you have at home, and grab some accessories (like the stick on jewels we used) from the dollar store and your set. A real pumpkin from a pumpkin patch, or grocery store and that’s all! Paint varying sizes of pumpkin and arrange them together to create a full fall porch decor idea. The little pie pumpkins look super cute alone or with a larger one. Let’s get into what you’ll need for this fun craft! Materials: Real pumpkin Acrylic Paint Painters tape Jewel stickers Paint brushes Firstly, apply the painters tape in vertical lines. Follow the natural grooves in your pumpkin. Secondly, paint your pumpkin. Let the pumpkin dry between coats. Read on for the DIY Wooden Porch Pumpkin Home Decor tutorial! What you’ll need: Three wooden logs, bark removed A small branch cut into three (2-3inch pcs) to use as stumps Glue  Sand paper Chisel or Flat head screwdriver Orange paint (one to three shades) White paint Paint brushes Finishing spray Embellishments (ribbon, burlap, etc) Step 1.  First step is to peel the bark off of the log.  A chisel is best for this (although I only had a flat head screw driver that worked nicely too).  The bark can be a little stubborn so be careful!  Also, it’s a lot messy so be prepared for that too. Step 2.  Sanding.  Sand all the areas down so it’s smooth, a little time consuming but worth it. Step 3. Now to paint.  Paint each log orange first.  You can use different shades for each log, or the same like I did.  When the orange paint has dried completely, add a layer of white.  Once the white paint has dried, take your sandpaper and gently rub it over the log.  You will see that some of the orange paint starts to peak through.  Rub as little or as much as you’d like! Step 4.  Glue your small ‘stumps’ onto the top of each log.  This will create the pumpkin stump and give a finished look to the project!  It really does make a difference. Step 5.  Sealer.  I used a spray sealer with a little shine to it.  Give it two coats, allowing them to dry in between.  Step 6. Add some twine, string, ribbon or burlap to the top.  You can also add some metal pieces, a trend we are seeing this year is different types of materials being used in fall decor! Ta-Da!  Your DIY Wooden Porch Pumpkin Home Decor is finished. That’s it!  Your fall decor is ready for your front porch, mantel or office.  This DIY fall home decor project is definitely one of my favourites, it was fun to make with a bit of a challenge to it.  Taking a piece from a raw condition and creating a decor piece was definitely worth it. Autumn Embroidery Hoop Topiary https://www.andthenhome.com/autumn-embroidery-hoop-topiary/ Wed, 04 Oct 2017 11:00:25 +0000 https://www.andthenhome.com/?p=2411 It’s October…and its already snowed here in Calgary. Thankfully it only came in for one day and has now melted but it still marked the end of the flowers I had on my front porch. They are both officially dead – RIP my fall chrysanthemums. ☹   Now I’ve been brainstorming about how to use my two planters. I needed something quick and ideally on the cheap. I headed to the craft store and wandered around a bit. Luckily everything fall is on clearance now because in retail, its Christmas time. I found a couple of leaf garlands for cheap and then picked up some embroidery hoops. My plan was to make a circle from the hoops and cover them in the garland to make a topiary ball. It did not look good. That’s okay, it happens in DIY sometimes. Back to the drawing board and I redesigned the look by covering the hoops in burlap ribbon and letting them show instead of covering them up. I’m quite happy with my second attempt. ? It’s a good lesson to not get discouraged if something not quite working. Tweak a couple things and hang in there, it’ll work out in the end! What You’ll Need: Embroidery hoops Leaf garland Hot glue gun and sticks Scissors Ribbon Cover both the inner and outer hoop with the ribbon. Glue along the way to hold the ribbon in place. Place the smaller hoop inside the larger one and glue them together to create a ball. Add leaves from the garland in the bottom of the circle and secure with some glue. Cut some individual leaf from the garland and glue to the hoop decoratively around the top and sides of the ball. My finished topiary’s are sitting on my planters to replace my sadly dead plants. I made a second ball in a larger size to go onto the larger planter. Need some more fall décor? Check out our String Art Leaf in Autumn Colours. Glitter Heaven! Fall Paper Leaf Wreath https://www.andthenhome.com/fall-paper-leaf-wreath/ Wed, 27 Sep 2017 11:00:55 +0000 https://www.andthenhome.com/?p=2387 We’ve been posting Fall inspirations, projects and DIYs for a couple weeks now and we have a lot more to go! Thanksgiving is on its way and we want you to be prepared. A great seasonal DIY staple are wreaths. They are fun and easy to make and always look great on the front door, inside and out. This quicksie wreath uses lots of glittery papers in Autumn colours of golds, oranges and reds. I pictured my wreath hanging on my front door, but really it hangs inside the house. The paper doesn’t actually do well in the wind and elements. I included a template to trace to cut the leaves out, but you could use any shape you like. Cutting out all the leaves is the longest part of this quicksie craft, a more complicated shape will take longer to cut out. With that in mind…enjoy! What You’ll Need: Wreath base (preferably cardboard or wood over wire. It’ll be easier to attach the leaves to) Glitter paper (scrapbook paper is perfect) Template – get it here Scissors Hot glue gun and sticks Ribbon Print out template and use it to trace the pattern onto the back of the glitter paper. You’ll need to trace about 30 leaves in a variety of colours and then cut out all the leaves. Attach a length of ribbon for hanging to the wreath base. Glue the leaves onto the wreath base, alternating the colours. Be sure to overlap the leaves on top of the ribbon to cover it. We hope you have fun making this wreath, you’ll love how easy it is! We’ve been posting Fall inspirations, projects and DIYs for a couple weeks now and we have a lot more to go!

What You’ll Need:

    • Wreath base (preferably cardboard or wood over wire. It’ll be easier to attach the leaves to)
    • Glitter paper (scrapbook paper is perfect)
    • Template – get it here
    • Scissors
    • Hot glue gun and sticks
    • Ribbon

Processed with Snapseed.

Print out template and use it to trace the pattern onto the back of the glitter paper.
