Floral prints are everywhere right now and I wanted to experiment with them. I went digging through the basement and found an old decorative plaque that I’ve had tucked away and knew it would make a perfect little coffee tray. It used to hang in our guest room before we redecorated but I knew I would find another use for it one day and by covering the bottom with a floral paper, I turned it into a cute little single serve coffee tray. Certainly perfect for indulging yourself in the morning, in bed or on the porch and the best part is this project takes 10 minutes! Faux Marble Deer Head – Transformed https://www.andthenhome.com/faux-marble-deer-head-transformed/ Tue, 15 Jan 2019 05:05:08 +0000 https://www.andthenhome.com/?p=4024 There are always projects that we make and then realize maybe there’s something missing or perhaps something changes, like the season. If you get creative, transforming old pieces to new can be really rewarding. Besides being super useful, re-purposed items can become even better than they were before. And being environmentally friendly doesn’t hurt either. To help inspire you and get you started, we’ve up-cycled one of our Christmas projects. We originally made this faux marble deer head back in November and the first step here is to make it too – that is if you haven’t done it already! Find the instructions here. Finished? Great! Onto the next steps for a brand new faux deer head … All you’ll need for this transformation is a glue gun and an assortment of flowers. Decide on your layout and then start gluing the flowers into place. And that’s all it takes! With the flowers, this newly flowered deer head is ideal for bedrooms and nurseries but could really fit in anywhere.

Sweet and Modern Flower Girl Terrarium https://www.andthenhome.com/flower-girl-terrarium/ Wed, 26 Jul 2017 11:00:17 +0000 https://www.andthenhome.com/?p=2031 We recently added a new décor piece to our bookshelves – a terrarium. Terrariums are so popular right now and you see them, and the materials to make them, everywhere. I was admiring ours the other day and was suddenly inspired. A terrarium would make a great modern alternative for a flower girl basket! There are hundreds of ideas out there for flower girls to carry with them, from baskets to bouquets and other unique ideas but I haven’t seen a flower girl terrarium yet. One of the most endearing sights in a wedding procession is when a flower girl scatters her petals down the aisle. With a terrarium, not only can you arrange tiny succulents inside, you can also add flower petals to be sprinkled before the bride. Sadly, I don’t know anyone getting married in the next little while (sad because I love weddings!) so our little niece Tali sweetly stood in as our flower girl. What You’ll Need: A hanging terrarium glass Lace or ribbon Succulents Floral filler – pearls, beads, crystals (or soil for real succulents) E600 or other strong glue Flower petals     Add a piece of lace or ribbon for the flower girl to hold the terrarium with. This is a fantastic place to add your wedding colours into the design. Add your floral filler into the terrarium and use some glue to hold everything in place. Arrange your succulents in the terrarium and glue into place. When the petals are added for the flower girl to scatter, everything else should be glued in so that only the petals end up on the floor. On the big day, add the petals to the ball for the flower girl to scatter down the aisle. Whether its for your big day or someone you care about, we hope this project helps to create beautiful memories. For more wedding ideas check out Christine’s Top Eleven Wedding Trends of 2017

How to Make a Fabric Flower with Free Template https://www.andthenhome.com/fabric-flower-tutorial/ Tue, 30 May 2017 02:29:20 +0000 https://www.andthenhome.com/?p=1536 You’ve probably seen these flowers before and here’s a quick fabric flower tutorial on how to make them. They make perfect decorations for weddings, bridal showers, hairbands and more. The best part is all you need is some scraps of fabric and a needle and thread. Be sure to stick to thin fabrics; thick fabrics like felt or denim wont work very well. Each flower is easy to make but does require a lot of folding and cutting so if you’re planning to make a lot of them throwing a flower making party would be a great way to bring all your friends and family together for some pre-event bonding! What You’ll Need: Fabric scraps cut into squares Flower template – get it here  Scissors Needle and thread      Step One: Trace the template onto card stock and cut it out. Step Two: Place the template onto a fabric square and fold both the fabric and the template in half. Fold the fabric and template in half again so you are folding the number 2 sides against each other. Fold the fabric and template one more time so that the number 1 sides are facing out. Cut the excess fabric off the top of the petal, following the template curve. Only cut the top of the petal, don’t cut the fold end off. Step Three: Pull the needle and thread through the folds at the bottom of the petal. Cut at least 15 more flower petals (you can go up to 25) and thread the all the petals onto the thread. When you have all your petals threaded, push them together and tie the two ends of the thread together to complete your flower. Making wedding decorations? Michaels Copycat Mixed Media Love Canvas https://www.andthenhome.com/mixed-media-love-canvas/ Wed, 24 May 2017 11:00:47 +0000 https://www.andthenhome.com/?p=1506 Who among us crafters doesn’t love a good copycat project? I recently found this pretty little canvas at Michael’s and was instantly inspired. What if instead of a flat painting I added some silk and paper flowers and made it into a much more interesting Mixed Media Love Canvas? Voila! A truly original copy of a beautiful painting that’s easy and quick to make.   What You’ll Need: A 12” x 12” canvas Acrylic paint in pale yellow, dark yellow and teal Two 1-2” paint brushes Hot glue gun and sticks A variety of pink paper flowers A variety plastic leaf stems A large pink silk flower A knife Scissors Start by painting the entire canvas in a pale-yellow colour. Add a little bit of water to the paint to give a watercolour translucent look to the base layer. Let dry. Take the dark yellow paint and dab it onto the canvas making spots of colour instead of painting it on. Take another brush and with a little bit of water spread the paint around but don’t mix it in completely. This will create a watercolour marble effect. Let this layer dry too. Use the teal paint to create the letters. Remember to leave enough space for the flower to make the ‘O’. The letters should be about 4” tall and wide, but don’t worry about making them perfect, they should be perfectly imperfect. Decide where you want the flower O to be and use a sharp knife to cut a small hole for the flower stem to fit into so that the flower can lay flat. Use some hot glue to secure the flower in place. Add a couple of stems to the edge of the flower. Glue some stems and paper flowers onto the letters. You may have to trim some of the leaves off the stems so that they will lay flat.   Hope you enjoy you’re Mixed Media Love Canvas as much as I love mine!
